Damn, those were quite amusing. I think they could make them even funnier by dubbing more dialogue over the actors and removing some shots that go nowhere. The scene of Bill Duke apparently going crazy and killing himself is one of the high points.
Go Flash, GO! Well, I felt obligated to take a step over here and stir up this thread ... I had my MP3 player (long live the Rio Karma!) playing tunes at random, and what popped on but a track from the 'Flash' soundtrack. Ahhh ... so fabulous!!
FLASH GORDON is truly a guilty pleasure. Such cheese. But it tastes so good! I loved this movie when it came out 27 years ago. I still have the original LP soundtrack I bought back then (!). I of course have the soundtrack on CD also, now. Queen really outdid themselves with this one. The soundtrack could have sucked 20 different ways. But it doesn't. It RoXXoRs ... it kicks ass! I know every syllable, every line spoken in the soundtrack and movie, and can recite verbatim, the whole thing, a second before the original line shows. Well, mostly the soundtrack. I haven't seen the movie quite as often as I've heard the soundtrack.
In fact, many a moon has passed since I saw Flash. Recently I had an opportunity, and -- holy smokes!! Youth! As an adult, there were VARIOUS scenes that had various "adult-suggestive" themes in them, that simply went right over my head back then. Of course, being only 11 at the time, I was a good bit shorter ... But ... wow. Right before the football scene, when Ming "examines" Dale Arden with his ring? Dale Arden was writhing and moaning in pleasure. One of the last moans suggestively sounded orgasmic. Sweet! I want a ring that does that .... and Ming's harem? And after Flash's revival, when Flash and Princess Aura are on the way to Barin's crib, when Aura attempts to seduce Flash? Hot!! Much hotter than I remembered from way back. And Flash is supposed to be steering the ship with his mind...(and his steering starts to go off... or, 'get' off..) hmmm, we need one of those trains-going-into-a-dark-tunnel visuals ....
Ornella Muti is hot .....
Perhaps when I acquire this movie, I'll write up a play-by-play on the adult-interest scenes .... Oh, and check out the movie trailer!
And so much more I haven't even touched ... the S&M theme they have w/ Flash in the dungeon, along with Kala's interrogation of Princess Aura .. her strapped to a table (held in place by ... helping hands!), & Kala's cat-o-nine-tails .... ouch .... too bad we didn't get a chance to see the bore worms ...
FLASH!! SAVIOR of the UNIVERSE ->->-> !! Perfectly brilliant .... (and such a captivating hook..just can't stop singing it) He'll Save Every One of Us!

A buddy of mine bought the "Savior of the Universe" edition DVD- I watched the section where Lorenzo Semple Jr. tells the story how he was instructed to go to Bob Guccione's house and see if he had any ideas on how to spice up the movie a little. (The result was that all the female extras were Penthouse models...)
