Does anybody knows where I can see them (especially Richard Stanley's "Children of the Kingdom")?
I tried to mail to the site, never get answers. I tried to download them (I admit...) but I only found the first edition of it.

The film is online: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=2021679981

All right, I saw it.
I don't think that CHILDREN has much sense at all: my impression is that Stanley wanted to do a short with powerful images and a just suggested storyline.
The ending really remembers me the mirror thing in DUST DEVIL, when we see Burke's twin in one angle: it doesn't mean anything, but it's quiet impressive on a visual level.
Btw: in this short Stanley has on his neck the same google that Burke's character was wearing on his own in DUST DEVIL.

Yesterday I went to see Neil Marshall's The Descent and, of course with other movies like Predator, Alien and Apocalypse Now, it reminded me a lot Stanley's short Childrem of the Kingdom!

In both movies we see somebody adventuring in a cave with flares and videocameras (with nightshot filter) and strange presences popping out from the dark - what I mean is that many elements and the atmosphere are really just alike.

And since both directors live in England and the short has been screened in festivals around Europe, I'm a bit suspicious...

Well, yours truly is still to see CHILDREN...

I did see THE DESCENT and was impressed. Funny thing about Neil Marshall, I remember thinking his previous film, DOG SOLDIERS, made a couple of Stanley references... I remember mentioning this to Stanley and he admitted there are a few there.

So Marshall knows Stanley's work, at the very least.

As far the "sense" goes, CHILDREN was originally made to fit the 5-minute format of the 99€ films. Stanley has expressed some interest in expanding the story with additional scenes one day.

References to Stanley in DOG SOLDIERS? I didn't notice them: where are they?

The film can now be viewed at Richard Stanley's MySpace.

Go see it.

It does remind me of THE DESCENT. SECRET GLORY, as well.

hey sic!!
I just got the german dvd of Europe 99euro-films 2 yesterday in the mail. while it can be viewed for free on his website, if u can watch multi-region disks, i highly recommend picking this one up!!. The 8 european shorts are great, and u have probably seen "children" online. It's just great to finally see it on full TV screen with good sound. Think i fully understand it now, he is caught in a time loop where he is forced to kill himself over and over again. was thinking of "the abandoned" the other day then watched this and it hit me. BUT, as a added feature on the DVD it comes with Richard's student film "Rites of Passage". A real treat for all diehard fans. I believe it was filmed when Richard was 15 years old. it is rough and on super8, but it is a very well done work of art. with many roots of themes that can be seen in his later works. wanted to let everyone on here know about this little gem that can be found from the most interesting filmmaker of all time. Now i just need to get a hold of "Incidents in an expanding universe", "vampire diary" (when it comes out), "That Deadwood Feeling" (if it is ever found), and i have seen everything he has done. Oh and thank you for keeping us posted with news on RS.
take care.

Thanks for verifying the existence of RITES on the disc, Alvy. Still to pick it up...

RITES is in the cards to be the next MySpace video, once Stanley gets around to uploading it. INCIDENTS is being considered as an extra for the new HARDWARE DVD, because it's a bit too long for the box (45'). VAMPIRE DIARY is finished with a DVD date in nine days (21/05); you can preorder it on Play.com. THAT DEADWOOD FEELING is still in a sort of movie jail.
