Doing a soundtrack for a union shoot right now, fairly large project. Tons of fun.

What the hell, might as well give my own update:

Technically, I finished the project back in May, but upon making a few corrections to the soundtrack, I found out that the entire project had become corrupted! (including my backups!)

After spending almost $1,000 (and the entire summer) on workarounds to no avail, I temporarily retreated to lick my wounds and take stock of the situation- I would have to re-edit the movie from scratch!

Currently, the picture portion of the movie is re-done, and now I'm working on the sound- again.

Better late than never, I suppose. When this thing is finally finished I'll be sending screener copies to potential distributors.

Incremental backups. A daily backup then a weekly all around incremental backup.

Glurrk, how have things developed for your movie? Haven't seen any developments posted ... this year? I took a peek at your website (still listed in your sig!), but the only thing there is a 'parked' page with a bunch of ad links. A person can still see your initial splash page, by peeking through Archive.org, here -- but secondary pages apparently didn't get archived, so that's as far as it goes ... :(

Phoebus, thanks for asking! :D

The site's been so inactive that we never noticed it was down. The site is the responsibility of the producer, so I can't recall the last time I checked on it. If I knew more about site design, I would be adding updates to it. Oh, well...

We finally got a working version, and ensured that all the dialogue was easy to hear- also, after a few reviews by some objective sources, we trimmed it short by 7 or 8 minutes, making the run time about 111 mins.

We had a premiere at the Portage Theatre in Chicago...

Unfortunately, we only filled about 30 seats out of a possible 1350. Rather embarrassing, to say the least! (None of my friends showed up, so it was mostly strangers) However, we got positive feedback and elected to send it to festivals...

...where we received numerous rejections. The idea was to create a bit of buzz to make it attractive to potential buyers, but so far The Uninvited hasn't found an outlet.

To complicate matters, there are several movies with the same title being released soon, one of them being a Dreamworks studio release.

The producer and I are researching how to get the movie to a proper distributor, and once this is done, we can put this to bed and get working on our next project.

Incidentally, one of the lead actors (Kevin Oestenstad) has snagged a lead role in another horror film, and it appears to be having better luck than The Uninvited on the festival circuit.

Here's a link to the movie:

Greets peeps,

Just got back from a rather ambitious short film shoot mixing live-action with puppets (some of the most wicked elves L. Frank Baum never saw even if he'd dropped acid). Got involved as a script doctor, ended up co-writing and directing the actors, as well as coordinating the production with my chirpy producer.

All in good fun, but Boy! was that a long stretch of work.

Will post something up once the postproduction gets properly underway.

Just a general for-the-hell-of-it update:

I'm still submitting the movie to a few festivals that might take it, but no word on whether any of them will accept it yet. Also, I'm looking to find a distributor for the movie as well. This is actually harder than it seems; I thought making the movie would be the most difficult aspect of the process, given how many crappy movies are bought by studios every year. (Lion's Gate, I'm looking at you!)

Just an update, and surprisingly, it's good news for a change! The Uninvited just won two awards from the IndieFest.com! The movie has picked up two "Awards of Merit" for both "Best Feature" and "Best Leading Actor." (in this case, Nicole Wiesner for her work as Allison Pettyjohn)

http://www.theindiefest.com/IndieWinners012509Deadline.pdf
(look under the "J" section)

The other lead actor, the two supporting actors and the composer (Kevin Oestenstad, DJ Pollard, Keith Stoneking and Adrian Ellis, respectively) were also submitted for consideration, but unfortunately, they didn't win.

Oddly enough, I didn't submit the movie for "Best Picture" but it won anyway. I'm not going to argue.

The movie is now eligible for a distribution package (this does NOT guarantee distribution, this is simply a strong recommendation from a trusted source) which costs a bundle ($500 minimum for 10 distributors to receive screeners to look over.)

I'm emptying my piggy bank.

Newly revised website is up:

http://thefedorachronicles.com/uninvited/

(Yeah, it's attached to someone else's website. But they offered to do it and it's light-years ahead of the original site for The Uninvited, which was a crap-fest.)

Just another update- we've received two letters of interest from two separate distributors, but getting either of them to return calls has been a GIANT pain in the ass. I understand distributors are notorious for being busy, but we're going into almost two months of this.

A few of them have been kind enough to send us rejection letters, so we know not to bother them again.

I wish I could inform each distributor that there's competition, to help get the ball rolling on this.

Another small update- we've had three separate distributors express interest in acquiring The Uninvited, but even after contact was achieved, it's still been a month since any of them have stayed in touch.

I actually phoned the head of the IndieFest (Dr. Baker) who helped us make the initial contact and asked him if this was normal. Apparently, it is- even after a distributor says they want the movie, you can expect them to drag their heels in getting the ball rolling.

I gather that it's going to be a true test of patience. I really just want to sell the damn thing and get the files off my hard drive already!
