Hello, I just saw a list of upcoming DVDs on the Fangoria website and noticed Hardware is going to be released by Dimension in the near future. Does anyone know if this is confirmed or if there is a tentative date set for release? Thanks,

John

Somebody else (with Laser Paradise) has found the rights? I hope so! And I want a full extra packaged special edition!!!

The usual little dream...

I hope so. It certainly deserves to get the full special edition treatment.

The listing on Fangoria.com has been there for ages. I think they're referring to the Buena Vista DVD, which was pulled back in mid-2003 if memory serves me right. So don't put too much hope on it.

The Laser Paradise disc on the other hand was a bootleg, so they didn't have to worry about the rights. I think they're entangled between three separate parties; Miramax (the Weinstein bros.), the remnants of Palace Pictures (Stephen Woolley) and Wicked Films (Paul Trijbits).

WF was the company that produced Stanley's music videos, BTW.

So no new edition? DAMN!

About the german DVD: have you noticed that the trailer looks better than the actual movie? The colors and contrast are more vivid!

Hey All,

Happy I found your site! I read about HARDWARE in Fangoria some time back and have been wanting to get my movie loving eyes on this gem forever it seems. Can anyone tell me where I can get a copy of HARDWARE? I don't even care if it's not the greatest quality, VHS, whatever! The photos in Fangoria knocked my socks off and the trailer just tells me that I'm right about my needing this crazy flick in my movie collection. Richard Stanley sounds like a great guy also. Maybe some day I can chat with him about filmmaking. :) I'll keep checking here to watch how things develop for the movie.

Nice job on the site!

-Lou

I don't understand these problems with releasing the full version. Why bother with putting out something chopped? I have an example of what can happen with "Death Machine" and it's a total waste. I'd love to see ALL of Richard Stanley's "Hardware"! Whenever a chop-shop job is put out on dvd, all I can think of is, "what were the powers-that-be thinking of??? If they are so sure we'll buy a chopped version, then why do they not think we would go nuts and all-out for a BIG version?"

Shoot.

edit: cleared subject. - sic.

DEATH MACHINE quite sucks - the only good thing of it is the presence of William Hootkins.

HARDWARE rocks.

Thank you for the answer to my question, Mark 13. Yours was the first reply I got after joining this group.

Charming.

I feel very welcome.

Buena Vista (or whomever is now in charge of the release) would've put out the version that went through the MPAA with an R-rating in 1990. Palace Pictures fought against the cuts pretty hard back in the day, but they kept getting an X (equivalent to NC-17 today, I'd imagine), which is not commercially viable. So, you make cuts in order to get your film out there with the desired rating.

It's not impossible for the distribution company to track down something like the UK version, which is as uncut a theatrical print as it gets. That's not the problem - the problem is that you'd have to go back to the MPAA all over again because it would essentially be a different copy from the one released back in 1990. It may be a lot of work, so the company won't naturally go for it unless they're positive it would be worth their while.

Of course you nowadays see a lot of stuff released unrated, but there may be some limitations / downfalls with that option as well (some stores refusing to include the release in their selections, etc.).

Oh, and pipe down mark 13. You want to talk about DEATH MACHINE, do it in another section.

I hope this isn't old news-

www.fabpress.com is offering HARDWARE as a Region 2 PAL DVD.

(It looks to be identical to the German DVD out there...) :)

It is, in fact, the German DVD. :D

Harvey Fenton over at FAB Press is a cool guy, he's a personal friend of Stanley's et al. Last time I spoke with him on the matter, he was a bit frustrated about the fact that both HARDWARE and DUST DEVIL discs were constantly being sold out at FAB, so he didn't have time to get any stock.

Hardware DVD (some vendors)

And Dust Devil

But Miramax has the rights for the American video market, doesn't it? I know that in the U.S. HARDWARE is widely available on tape (we can't say the same in Europe), so a DVD edition is more possible there.

Is Weinstein still pissed off with Stanley?

Jeez, will you look at this DVD priced at Amazon?
I'm wondering how this disc came into existence- as far as I know, no Region 1 DVDs were ever made... :?
