The soundtrack for Hardware is now available in MP3 format, under the audio section. However, I can see by the mad downloading that some of you have already found it.

Since I want nothing but the best for ya', all tracks were encoded at a nice, healthy 320 kbps bitrate, non-variable. Good stuff.

I was looking into completly LOSSLESS formats, alternatives to the mp3 format, but .. well, let's just say that that will have to wait for another time. I found a really great format, but ... the end result would have probably have netted a 400-MB to 500-MB album. And all that bandwidth that got sucked up would end up costing me a pretty penny ... so no can do just yet! I think those 320 mp3's came out reeeel nice, so NO complaints, I'd say. :)

1st post. Lucky for me I bought the soundtrack when it came out. THE best soundtrack I have ever bought. It is an experience in itself.

that's what I wanted, that's what I got. ...

I've been a long time fan of Hardware and have never been able to get hold of the soundtrack until friend of mine came across your site and pointed me in the right direction.

Many thanks for making it available, at long last we have it to listen to while wondering the zone.

There are no new Soundtracks being sold. Those are all earlier releases, being sold used by the "Collector-Type-Store-Dudes". Of course, used isn't bad. Better than none! But no new ones. #-o

I love the soundtrack for Hardware, it is one of the things about the movie that stands out most for me. I haven't seen it for a VERY long time, but i am always looking out there to see if the US will ever see a DVD release. It's mind boggling that there is no US special edition dvd. Any way, the soundtrack is great because there is such a range of styles, from the tex mex slide guitar, to the epic orchestral score(my favorite part). :D

The liner notes are from the Milan release.

The track listing is from the Varese Saraband disc, which might be the same as with Milan.

Phoebus might be able to elaborate on this.

It pleases me that Mr Boswell provides a link to his own soundtrack. Then again, next thing we know a cease and desist order is dropped in the mail.

Mmm... this thread got dusted off for a reason.

but to first answer that last question, which somehow got by unanswered -- yes, the Milan album cover with the Nomad on the front is the French release of the album. The tracks on the Milan release are identical to the Sarabande release, with one exception. The Milan only has 17 tracks. Track #18 on the Sarabande release (the 14 second "I dreamed it was raining!" bonus from Boswell - which is not listed) is not found on the Milan release.

I have "remastered" the HARDWARE soundtrack. I went through a recent spell of album encoding for my MP3 player (which I use in the car to save me from analog radio, which is un-listenable!) -- and learned of additional optimized settings and tweaks that better configure Exact Audio Copy to talk to the CD drive, and better optimized settings for LAME, also.

I've listened to the tracks, and it is my honest opinion that the newly re-encoded tracks sound ... better, fuller. I don't know if I'm imagining it, but the older non-variable bitrate versons of the tracks sound a bit ... flatter. Which I don't fully understand, having recorded them at a full on 320kbps bitrate. Perhaps it is the newer version of LAME being used ... I don't know. But if you thought the tracks as we had them before sounded great, I believe these sound a good slice better. 8)

Now with any luck, everyone won't try downloading them all at the same time ... due to the bandwidth issues, I can't host the MP3's on this site -- I host them off of a server in my office, which uses DSL ... and when MP3's are being d/l'ed, it leaves me no bandwidth for e-mail, browsing the web, or anything else. #-o So if you're half-way through a download, and it stalls, it's likely because I had to un-plug the web server so I could send out an important email ... or pull up a @#)*$ web page ... just try back in an hour or so ...

I know more and more sites are popping up that might be good for hosting these for free ... feel free to recommend a good one to me, one that would allow downloads without forcing the person to create an account first, hopefully without a bunch of ads, etc.
