Wow, it's even shittier than my website!  (I guess I don't feel so bad now!)

Hey, at least he keeps it up to date. Every six years or so.

I'm so glad I didn't bother to make this a separate "news-breaking" thread!

Glurrk, by linking to his site, you actually lured Troy over to register.

Don't be scared to share your thoughts, dude. Answer questions on the stream here and prove the doubters wrong. While you're obviously very busy promoting your stuff over at IMDb, be sure to mention that it's your site you're plugging.

Aw, SHIT! :o

(sorry about that. Looks like thirty whacks with a wet noodle for me.)

I promise not to do stuff like that again!

From Richard Stanley:

"Hardware's fortunes also seem set for an eleventh hour upturn. With the DVD rights now practically worthless as a result of the industry going slowly but steadily down the tubes Miramax (or what remains of it) has finally agreed to come to the table. It's early days yet but just getting the various parties talking is akin to getting the Israelis and the Palestinians to sit down together.

There's unlikely to be any money in it but if I can crack this particular Rubik's cube we could see a director's cut scheduled for an autumn release. I'm hoping to drop the crappy ADR lines added for the initial cinema run (mostly to soften the characters and make them seem more in control) as well as reinstating a couple of teeny, weeny yet oddly telling things omitted at the time."

Hmm... that bit is interesting, indeed. :-k

This is surely fantastic news ... a "real deal" HARDWARE DVD? My life (ok, well, maybe just my DVD collection) would finally be complete. :P I really truly hope this comes to pass, however ... it's a wonderful "property", and would certainly do Stanley some good to get his first creation out in the light of day ... the way he meant for it to be seen ... hell, it'll do me some good, too! (I wanna see, I wanna see the omitted 'telling' things!)

This happens, and it will be a glorious day -- I'll be dancing aound like Glurrk, here ...! 8)

Thanks for the news post on Twitch, swarez.

Like Richard said, it's still early stages. Remember the 2003 Buena Vista release. On the other hand, the waiting game can't hold on forever. Dust Devil's DVD situation was turned upside down in the course of three years, when suddenly we had everything ranging from the VHS-rip to the remastered special edition.

With Hardware, we're still waiting. But guys, I'd like to ask you; If you could create the perfect Hardware DVD, what would you include? At the moment, this question is purely hypothetical and I figure it'd pass the time. But still, I'm interested in your opinions.

I'll start by saying a new transfer would be a given, as would a commentary track by Stanley. So what else?

- I'd like to see Incidents in an Expanding Universe thrown in as an extra, since it's basically Hardware as a short film, sans the droid.

Like the Dust Devil release, a Hardware SE should contain the OOP soundtrack, even though I already have it. And how about a mini comic of Shok? And unlike Dust Devil, English subtitles included.

- Commentary track by Stanley
- Photo gallery (could include behind the scenes shots)
- Alternate language tracks (I don't know why; I guess I'm just used to occasionally switching over to the German language track on the Red Edition DVD.)
- Interview with Stacey Travis
- Tribute to William Hootkins
- Isolated musical score
- Any scenes restored to Stanley's original vision

That's all I can think of for now- if anything else strikes me, I'll make an amendment to my list...

They would have a script ready for another comic book tie-in.

- HARDWARE will be remastered and re-released theatrically by MGM
- A R2 UK DVD release will be put out by Optimum this fall
- The soundtrack will be re-released
- US DVD rights are sought after, Norm Hill's Subversive Cinema is one of the contenders

- Presumably the version put out will be the new director's cut, Stanley hasn't verified this yet

Outstanding! :D

No set date yet, I assume? (Hopefully sooner than later. We've been more than patient...)

This is STUNNING news! New 35mm Dolby prints ... for the big screen! I can't wait. I'm really looking forward to seeing it on the big screen, again ... It's only been ... 17 years (!) since I've seen it there ... Wow. The DVD release is a very pleasant suprise, but in my wildest dreams I could not have imagined a 2nd theatrical release actually happenning. That's just too cool. I can forsee having a HARDWARE (re)release party here in town, once show dates are announced ... I'll have to get a bunch of people together to go see it! (over .. and over ... again ... ) Sweeeeett .......

And a DVD release too -- just fantastic. Yes, I hope Norm's Subversive gets their hands on it, because their work on the Dust Devil release was un-matched. A whole lot of attention went into that Dust Devil release. HARDWARE deserves the same. Wow. When it rains, it pours! Next up ... 'Vacation'! :D
