Hey Glurrk, January 2006 has gone: have you shot something?

Since we were pretty much off-topic in the HD discussion thread already, I figured we'd have a new thread here. - sic.

My producer and I have spent this winter filling out a proper business proposal for acquiring a budget; we'll know if anyone's going to give us money at the end of this month, hopefully. Also, we contacted a casting director and as soon as we can get schedules worked out, we'll be casting real actors!

...So I guess the answer is no.... ....but I'm working REAL hard to make sure something happens this spring! Thanks for asking! (I'll make sure I give an update whenever something of importance happens. Maybe my producer will even put up a website for the movie or something...) :)

Well, it's begun-

I start casting for "The Uninvited" on March 26th! Some of the actors will be SAG (Members of the Screen Actors Guild) and I have zero money currently, so we'll see if any of them are willing to work for nothing until the movie actually makes any money. (A long shot for a low-budget indie, I confess, but now is the time for some risk-taking...)

Well, I casted for my movie and got a lot of talented people- the only problem now is that SAG is a hassle- if you want to use their people, you have to have lots of safeguards & guarantees. (Union rules, basically.) The actors themselves are not the issue, it's the fact that all these things cost money- making it harder and harder to get this movie rolling.

If I just say screw it and go without the safeguards, the actors can get into trouble- and at this point I won't risk it- yet.

Shooting is tentatively set to begin at the end of May!

Well, it's been over two weeks, and the SAG office is not returning my calls...

Jackoffs...

It's a wonder how anyone can get a movie off the ground these days...

Got that right. I'm writing something I'm getting quite pleased with, but nobody's going to give me the money for it, even if it's cheap. Just too weird for its own good.

So I sympathize, I sincerely do.

Just a general update- our budget was rejected- this means we get nothing. Since we already have the camera, editing equipment and actors, we'll just have to forge ahead as best we can. Man, this is going to be rough... :?

(The money was going to go for costumes, music and effects, as well as paying the actors.)

Well, to add to the fun, I cannot get a contract that will allow my SAG actors to work for deferred payment, which means they will have to be re-cast. (Either that, or jeopardize their own career- I'll leave that up to them.)

Just an update- my lead actor was forced to bow out because of the SAG restrictions. :(

This really sucks. (kinda like SAG, except they also blow, too.)

Another update- We've started shooting! So far, we're 10% finished, and the actors are wonderful! 8) When I start to load the footage, I'll post a few screen caps.

Congratulations - or condolences, whichever suits better.

Thanks, Sic! :D

So far, congratulations are in order, as I was beginning to think this thing would never get off the ground. I won't start opening any champagne yet, as shooting has barely begun- and there's plenty of time for more bad stuff to happen!

To tie this project in with this board, I will say that there's a little bit of Stanley's influence on this movie, although it is NOT a fanfilm of any sort. One parallel with Hardware is that there is a portion of the movie where the heroine is trapped in her house with something unworldly, but it is not a crazed robot.

More details on this in a few weeks, when filming kicks into high gear! (Hopefully)

P.S. - Thanks for making this a thread unto its own!

Personal ambition: At the moment, 2/3 done with the first draft which I am to turn in early September. Short spec, 20 pages. Currently quite happy with how its going, might end up being one of those obscure z-films no-one's ever willing to see but what the hell.

Glurrk: See the Web Developing Thread.
