A new horror film written and to be directed by Richard Stanley, with Recorded Picture Company producing. I understand it's to be shot on DV, and is currently budgeted for one million dollars.

--

Cast: Bruce Campbell (Bryce, attached), Maggie Moor (Carly, attached)

Crew details, verified so far:

Richard Stanley (director), Richard Stanley, Maggie Moor (screenwriters), Michael Riley (producer), Alexandra Stone (producer), Simon Duric (storyboard artist)

I believe the movie "28 Days" was also shot on DV, and that movie looked decent (from a technical standpoint) so we can pretty much dismiss the stigma of Stanley's film being shot "on video". :)

Stanley's CV now lists VACATION:

VACATION
Writer / Director
Recorded Picture Company

Not really news, yet a promising update.

A chappy called Simon Duric is working as a storyboard artist on VACATION.

The latest is that the production is still going forward. More on that later.

edit: At IMDb, someone has added Maggie Moor as Stanley's co-writer on the project. The powers that be keeping an eye on things. ;)

Still going on strong, although the production start has been moved up to early 2006.

Fingers crossed. 8)

But what does this mean actually? I mean, HARDWARE cost around 1 million bucks back in 1990 - it would cost at least 5 million today, if not more...

That can't be real, can it? :? I wouldn't think the real person would sign in a message board under their real name- they'd get swamped by hordes of adoring fans. (theoretically) :)

In another of our "Internet rumors", here's one from Wikipedia:

[Richard Stanley] has a feature film in development titled 'Vacation' which he intends to film in the Canary Islands in 2007. It concerns an American couple holidaying in the Middle East when nuclear war breaks out.

I'll ask around. Could be bull. Or not.

Why not, my dear friend William S. Wilson uses his real name here; you might recognize him from the Edgar Allan Poe short story.

An article on DUST DEVIL DVD features a little description on VACATION.

He’s currently pitching Vacation, a low-budget revenge flick about an American stripper and her Jewish boyfriend who are visiting a posh resort in the Middle East when the Western world ends and the Muslim locals turn on the infidel tourists. “But they rise to the occasion and prove they’re even more brutal than the locals. And they discover they really love each other,” Stanley enthuses. “We figured if we were going to make an end-of-the-world movie, we could at least make one with a happy ending.”

- Time Out New York

In his MySpace blog, Stanley mentioned 50% of the proposed budget ($500,000) was procured from an private investor in January. They're currently shopping the project around in order to attain the other half.

Please let this happen. Please! A Richard Stanley film staring Bruce Campbell!!! We could be looking at the greatest film in history here!

Excellent to see Richard's blogs. Maddening to see the kind of walls he keeps hitting when trying to get a production off the ground.

Just yesterday, the budget was increased by $250,000.

They currently have three quarters of $1,000,000 covered.

Just to reiterate what Pineapples said - a Richard Stanley film starring Bruce Campbell?!? It's too much goodness for my geek heart to bear!
