Courtesy of Optimum Releasing, no word on special features or whether it's uncut yet...

Nice find and hello, James.

I'll look into this through proper channels. Mind you, Amazon has done this before; they had the R1 version up on pre-order in 2003. I did place my order just to be sure, but am not getting my hopes up yet.

I recommend everyone else interested does the same.

I'm still debating- perhaps I should wait for the R1 release. I'll see what the special features are going to be (if any) and make a decision then.

I'm beginning to think it was a good idea to preorder.... 8)

is this one of those "you know something, but can't say anything yet" kind of things?

anyway, looking forward to what Optimum will do for this release. fingers crossed it lives up the bar set by Subversive's DUST DEVIL release.

Do I have a habit of doing that?

I personally hope it'll cross the bar set by Optimum's DUST DEVIL.

Subversive is a completely different ballgame.

Yes, though with Subversive out of action...
Optimum could still try to best them. I definitely wouldn't hold it against them 8)

but even just to have a really nicely transferred copy of the film will be hugely appreciated.

Keep wishing! Most of Optimum's releases nowadays are vanilla, which isn't surprising given the current economic climate. In fact, no indie DVD company in the UK would do a 5-disc release because they'd go out of business - just like Subversive :( Still, some e-sites are listing the DVD as "Hardware: Special Edition", so there's hope for some extra content.

A commentary track with Stanley is a possibility.

The Optimum release is supervised by HARDWARE producer Paul Trijbits, who has also supported Stanley's VIY project through the UK Film Council.

Having him shepherd the film to DVD is a definite asset.

even just something related to the production history of the film, whether commentary or decent doco would be a blessing.

as for a 5-disc set. can't see what'd be there to fill it though the thought is certainly a nice one. 8)

definitely good news that Paul Trijbits is involved. sounds like there's potential for at least a very nice presentation of the film itself, which is really all I'm hoping for. considering all we've had so far is the mediocre Red Edition, solid Picture & Sound would be wonderful.
though not coming from Miramax, it'd be interesting to hear the final word on the Weinstein (were they involved in this one? my memory thinks so...) inflicted production without any potential last minute omissions.

Amazon has a cover up, pretty much like you'd expect, but at least it doesn't look like another SAW poster art rip-off.

Harvey had a problem with the Bill Hootkins character.

Stephen Woolley of Palace Pictures edited Stanley's final cut somewhat (incl. the sex scene). I believe Miramax issued for some additional ADR, including Jill's line 'Fuck you, I know the answer'.

Restoration possibilities towards Stanley's original cut are being looked into.

thanks sic. figure I could've found the info in one of the interviews/articles on your site (which I really need to get around to reading!), but thank you.

are the "restoration possibilities" related to the upcoming Optimum release, or is this a separate thing entirely?
cheers, as always

It is Richard's long-time hope to have HARDWARE out in the form he originally intended.

He's been talking about tweaking any incoming release for years now. Time will tell how it'll happen.

well, here's hoping...
I imagine it's an uphill battle when even directors like Ridley Scott struggle to get their cut released to cinemas.
