Wow this set is damn comprehensive!
Norm - forget everything I said regarding commentaries in my last post, I just listened to the commentary on voice of the moon and you asked all the right questions, all the questions that I would have wanted to ask

Voice of the moon has got some fascinating footage, I wish there was more! But the interview with Richard Stanley was superb as usual.
This guy has had such a facinating life, an autobiography would have to be in multiple volumes.
What he went through to get cameraman Mr Horn to a medical base is astounding, I'd read sections of what Stanley went through in Afganistan in his many interviews and writings, but in this interview he goes into vastly more depth to the point where the recollections make him teary eyed.

To go to Afganistan at 22 to cover a war to conquor ones fears is an amazing feat of bravery. The more I find out about Mr Stanley the more upmost respect and admiration I have for him.
The whole reason I became fascinated with this guy is because of the multi layers of information and ideas within his films, I loved the way Hardware is essentially a p!ss take of 80's action/sci-fi films, but with many warning messages regarding the future and where man is going - the majority of which look to be coming true.

This guy always seems to be on the edge of something big, always just ahead of the general public. His films and docus always seem to be about something important that is just on the horison, as if he's trying to warn us about great contastrophies. Maybe this guy does have a 6th sense for these things, I dunno. All I do know is that I have never been bored watching or reading anything by Stanley.

I've also watched the Secret Glory with and without commentary, but more on that later.

*Scratches head* Isn't the Dust Devil 5-discer supposed to be OOP already? A number of DVD e-stores seem to have copies in stock:- Amazon, dvdpacific, cd-wow, deepdiscountdvd, dvdplanet.

I ordered my copy on 29th Sept and received it today, 5 discs and all.

Question: Is the 5.1 remix approved by Stanley? Thanks.

Subversive Cinema who released this set has sold out all copies, but they are at these e-tailers and ofcourse the people owning it now.
I'm curious myself when this set will become OOP and difficult to get.
I've got one ofcourse and am extremely happy with it!!

I think Stanley was very co-operative with this release so I guess he approved for the 5.1 audio track.

Sheitan got it right. Norm has been only speaking on his own behalf, Subversive's sold out everything they've got. It will become hard to get at rather soon at this rate.

Stanley ok'd the new transfer, so its safe to say he also approved the new mix. But that's really a question for Norm.

This transfer is just simply outstanding.

It doesn't look like they've used any DNR processes, since it retains the natural film grain; it looks like an actual film. While watching the film I only noticed one tiny black speck, Norman Hill and his team deserve every commendation they receive for this pristine restoration.

Hi guys,

The set is out of print. So once the retailers versions are gone that will be it. The simple fact is we dont make very much money off the set at the low price. We set that as a limited price to try and increase sales in a very slow market. It seems to have worked. I cannot tell you what version if any you will see of Dust Devil again once these are gone from the shelves.
As far as the materials go, Richard oversaw all of the post production work with myself while we were in LA recording the commentary tracks, etc.

Now can we expect a nice special edition of HARDWARE, or is this a matter of rights and it is simply impossible?

Fantastic set and I enjoyed it immencly.
I'm kind of ticked off that Richard was over here in Iceland shooting a short film not long ago and I didn't know about it. Would have been great to meet him.

There was one thing that I found interesting in the interviews about The Voice in the Moon. Richard talked about Afghan legends that dealt with werewolfs who wore human skin to hide themselfs from the general public. These stories resonate so strongly with the people there that even the fundamentalist armies are too scared to go to sertain villages. I don't know if Richard has thought about it, probably has, but this would make a fantastic idea for a film. A army troup getting lost in Afghanistan and ending up fighting against a village full of werewolfs. I'd pay to see that.

I was walking by a video shop yesterday, and thinking, I should probably try to get an ex-rental copy of Dust Devil (NB: I've never seen the film), just to see what it's like. Then I just happen to log on here last night and hear about the DVD box set, and for $20, I don't think I can go too far wrong, so I've ordered it. Should be interesting. I have also deliberately avoided reading too much about it, so basically, I still don't know what the film is about.

The main reason I signed up here (proud member #9) was cos I just LOVE Hardware. I only have an ex-rental video of that. But I did buy the soundtrack when it came out.

I'd say many of those ideas were incorporated into the VIY script.

A team of blue helmets vs. vampires in the war-ridden Bosnia, with the locals speaking Balkan languages - giving a pretty good insight on what's going on - while the grunts are unable to understand a word of it.

What's VIY? Something that Richard worked on?

That's what I thought first but VIY is a Russian film based on a old Russian legend.
It's being remade by the way, two remakes actually.
